Join LW&D Brum on a trip to see British Art Show 9 in Wolverhampton on the morning of Saturday 26 March. BAS9 is a landmark touring exhibition that celebrates the vitality of recent art made in Britain.

We’ll be meeting at Wolverhampton Train Station at 11am and then together we’ll walk over to Wolverhampton School of Art where Head of School Maggie Ayliffe will give us an introduction to the exhibition on show here.

Then a 5 minute stroll will take us to Wolverhampton Art Gallery to experience the other half of the show. We’ll end the morning with a cuppa in the Gallery café.

This International Women's Day we have invited 3 wonderful women to guide us through their illustrative hand lettering practice for our next Drink & Doodle event. Birmingham based designers Amy Blackford, Ruth Yeates and Jess Hughes will take us through a fun typographic challenge, giving us the opportunity to try our hand at different lettering styles and write our own inspirational, empowering quote.

Hear from women who are bravely going it alone and doing their own thing. We will host a panel of five wonderful women who've carved their own path, and now run their own creative businesses.

We invite 8 women to drink wine** and talk about how to embrace mistakes in design, how to work with the drive for perfection and how to manage your own expectations.

Join us for a lively panel talk hosted by Kerning the Gap where we bring together a diverse group of speakers to reveal their experiences of gender equality and representation of women in the industry and discuss how we can action real change on a broader scale in a world where only 11% of Creative Directors are women.

Learn how to create beautiful modern calligraphy using a dip pen and ink. Amy will help you master basic strokes to make letterforms and you will then progress to joining letters to form words. The class includes an essential kit of pen holder, nib, and ink to use in class and take away to continue practising with.

Explore the basic techniques of paper-cutting and modelling. Sam will guide you through the steps you can take to bring your 2D sketches to life in paper. In this session you’ll work with a paper frame to create your own 3D animal sculpture to take home.

Join us for free portfolio review sessions with leading Birmingham creatives in the fields of Advertising, Design, Photography and Illustration. Open to students, graduates or any creatives looking for direction or advice. Book your slot and make sure to bring your portfolio with you.

She Speaks The Truth will look at revealing the truth about the position of women in design in order to challenge the status quo and create a genuine conversation about how we can empower women and support them in gaining an equal footing in the industry.
